After much debate between UBox, car shipping, driving,
flying and walking, I came to the executive decision that the trip back home
from Santa Monica to Wisconsin would involve my trusty SUV (which started
flowing oil today – nothing $800 that I don’t have can’t fix) pulling a 6x12
UHaul trailer. On a positive, I am down
two living things from the last time I took this journey – no mom and no 16lb
Triton, may he rest in kitty heaven. This time my fellow adventures will consist
simply of Driver and Oscar, who will be heavily sedated.
Now the fun of planning begins! The next executive decision
I have made is to say forget it to hotels. I have purchased a trusty $39 tent
on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wenzel-Alpine-8-Feet-Dome-Light/dp/B002PAT60S/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1378423202&sr=1-1&keywords=tents+for+camping), and we are camping! Forget the sleeping bag, I’m moving with pillows
and blankets, who needs more? I mean car camping can’t be that much different from
Uhual camping, right? I just need to make sure I can get in and out of all
campsites without making a U-turn or needing to reverse.
I am currently debating between route one and route two.
They both start the
same, head up through the desert to Vegas and on to Saint George, Utah. The
path’s diverge at famous Fishlake National Forest, a recreationalist's paradise
known for its beautiful aspen forests, scenic byways, motorized and
non-motorized trails, elk hunting, and mackinaw and trout fishing. Recreational
opportunities include scenic drives, mountain biking, snowmobiling, ATV use, hiking,
and camping. Maybe this is a good spot for night one?!?!
I was trying to put a picture of Fishlake… instead
I found this website - http://www.utah.com/nationalparks/
Utah is pretty cool!!!! th
I thought if I took route two I could avoid some of the
really big rocky mountains… but it appears those go pretty far north. Damn
continental divide… Anyways, I shall keep you guys updated on progress and decisions!!
